👑1st thing:
If you’re really behind on your work, I suggest the mindset of….
“done is better than perfect” make a quick rough version of each assignment so you have SOMETHING to turn in.
This will alleviate the giant weight of feeling like you’re not gonna have your work done.
Then prioritize a “round 2” where you go back through each assignment, tidy them up and add some better material to each one.
If you’re not super behind…
Look at the dates that everything’s due and try not to worry yourself too much about the ones that are due at the later dates just yet.
so that way instead of staying to yourself “ I have all of these assignments to do” your self talk will change to “ I have this one assignment that I need to highly prioritize”
👑2nd thing:
I was such a horrible perfectionist about my grades in school and then…
Somebody told me once when I was working on making it through my bachelors program…
“what do you call the med student that got all D’s?”
I replied “I dunno 🤷🏻♀️”
And then they simply said “Doctor”
This statement changed my life while making it through the rest of my degree program.
It helped me to see that the end result was the same for me no matter what the experience was like along the way.
So I could either embrace and imperfection and Let my experience feel easier… or worry myself to death the entire ride.
So remember that you have power and you get to shape how your educational experience looks and feels.
👑Third thing:
just remember that these are assignments not a performance…. So you’re there to learn not to have to know it all already.
Most of the reason that we are in college is to learn the material, yes. But also to show to our future employers a message.
A degree send message “ I am a person who completes tasks repeatedly on a weekly basis, does them fairly well, and can make and follow through with a long term commitment”
When you get the paper at the end, that is what it’s proof of more than that you know the actual curriculum.
When I was getting my degree everybody in my organization that I was working at at the time told me they already knew I was qualified for the job.
I just had to “get the paper” because it was a requirement of the organization in order to hire me.
So just to let you know that the future employers will be looking for you’re super hirable and Every organization will want you to train under them, and most of your education will take place in the actual field.
For me when I could look into the future and see why my degree would be useful for my life in some other ways that detached me from feeling so much pressure around my assignments.
👑Fourth thing:
Now that I’ve graduated when I look back on my old drives and cloud folders and find my college assignments…. I literally delete the entire folders.
I don’t look in there to see if there’s something I want to keep. I KNOW I don’t want to keep any of it lol 😂
Most of the things that we produce, while we’re in college are throwaway items that won’t pertain to our future pathway.
If I could go back in time and see how fleeting those moments were of creating my assignments in some of the importance that I placed on them off so that I could just get through it and get it done…. My experience would’ve been a lot better.
👑5th thing:
Teachers are looking for a job done right not a job done big and fancy.
When teachers are grading, they’re literally looking for to see if you hit the points of criteria that they listed in the instructions.
We used to have to do these assignments on what they called “blackboard” online where we could all read each other’s assignments.
And I started to notice the longer I was in school we would do these really elaborate and beutifully crafted posts on the blackboard….. and then my fellow students would do literally bullet points with an intro and an outro.
We both got the same grade.
Now, looking back, I couldn’t tell you the names of any of those teachers or my fellow students that I was trying so hard to impress.
I switched it up for the second half of my time at the college and did only the expected requirements of the assignment.
I got the same grades with half as much work.
👑🫶🏻💋💋. Well, that was super fun taking a trip down memory lane to find five things that helped me survive college lol 😂
I sure hope it helps You have a better experience.
You got this you’re absolutely amazing! Make sure it’s a fun ride. That’s really all that matters.👑💁🏼♀️
xoxo,
Rachel
